People: New board member at construction firm; Partner appointed at property agency; and more

A construction, development and property services company has appointed a former Executive Trustee of the Grosvenor Estate, Jeremy Newsum, to its board.
Newsum joins the Wates Group Board from 1 September 2018, alongside fellow Non-Executive directors Deena Mattar and David Barclay, and recent Board appointee Joe Oatley, who joined Wates in 2017.
A Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Newsum retired in 2016 after spending over 25 years leading the executive team of the Grosvenor Estate and the Grosvenor Family Investment Office. He remains a trustee of the Grosvenor Estate, and also holds Non-Executive roles at Trinity College, Cambridge; Grupo Lar (Spain) and Cambridge Ahead.
Previous Non-Executive roles include Chair of the Urban Land Institute; President of the British Property Federation and council member of Imperial College, London.

His appointment was welcomed by Wates Group Chairman James Wates: “Jeremy is a business leader with tremendous experience of property, family business and investment, and we look forward to welcoming him to our Board. He joins us at an exciting time in our development, as we seek to build on recent successes and pursue our strategic ambitions for long term, sustainable growth.”

Newsum said: “I am extremely pleased to be joining the Wates Board as a non-executive director. Wates has established itself in the sector as a successful, family-run business with a reputation built on trust. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to working with the Board and the Executive Committee in the years ahead.”

A leading property agency has appointed a new Partner at its Doncaster office as it continues to strengthen its regional commercial team.

Fisher German has welcomed Nigel Nattress to the firm to help support and grow its commercial sector presence in the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

Nattress joins the agency from the Leeds office of Colliers International where he was the partner in charge of the advisory and restructuring service line across the northern region.

He has a strong client base established over his 27-year general practice career, primarily at national practises including Weatherall Green & Smith, Knight Frank and latterly Colliers International.

Over the last five years alone he has advised on more than £100 million of performing or non-performing property loans with assets in the agricultural, commercial, industrial, residential, licensed and leisure property sectors.

Nattress, who is an RICS registered valuer and property receiver, will continue to work alongside owners and occupiers, major lending institutions, equity funds, loan servicers, national and regional developers, local authorities, accountants and solicitors, to provide innovative strategies and solutions to meet their individual objectives.

Nattress said: “I am delighted to have joined the team at Fisher German following their expansion and office move to my home town of Doncaster last year.

“They have a very good reputation for professionalism across all sectors in the industry and I have been extremely impressed by their ethical approach towards clients and their business.

“I hope to utilise the specialist knowledge and experience I have gained over the years to further raise the profile of Fisher German’s offer across the region and developing new opportunities for the wider business and existing client base.”

Partner Kevin Benson, who is responsible for the commercial team at Fisher German’s Doncaster office, added: “Nigel joining us is exactly the sort of advancement we were looking for when we moved to Doncaster a year ago.

“Bringing both general commercial property expertise and restructuring specialism adds another dimension to the firm both regionally and nationally which is very exciting.”
