The northbound carriageway has now re-opened and Highways England has said it expects the southbound section to re-open later this evening.

Highways England has said the closure will likely remain in force until this afternoon so delays are likely to continue for some time.

The M6 in Staffordshire is closed in both directions to allow emergency repairs to a bridge. Very long delays are being reported even though rush-hour has yet to reach its peak.
