Leicestershire care home set to expand after funding deal

A Leicestershire business which provides residential care for adults with learning disabilities, has signed a funding deal to extend its care facility.

Coalville-based Rosedale Care Home, has secured the funding from Barclays to purchase a neighbouring property which will allow the business to offer an additional four places and will result in a number of jobs in the local community.

The business is owned and managed by Karen Ferne who herself has a son with severe autism. Ferne, wanting to learn more about how to manage her son’s condition, went to work in a care home.

In 2004, having spent thirteen years working in the industry, she decided she wanted to run her own business and set about converting her family home in Coalville.

She now offers residential care to seven adults with learning disabilities. Once the extension is complete, Ferne will be able to extend this to eleven.

She said: “I wanted to provide a home environment for my service users, which is important with these types of conditions and I am fortunate that people have stayed with me for many years. I want to extend the service now to more people and was delighted to secure the funding through Barclays.”

Alex Clarke, relationship manager at Barclays said: “From the first time I visited Rosedale Care Home, it was evident just how much passion Karen has for the business and for people she provides care for.

“From her own personal circumstances, Karen has developed a thriving business which has been achieved through hard work and determination. I am delighted that we have been able to support her with the extension of the business and to know that more people will benefit.”

Rosedale Care Home provides employment for 10 people – a number that is set to increase when the extended home opens later this year.
