Constructor showcases university developments

Construction company Willmott Dixon is offering people the opportunity to see behind the scenes of its new developments at universities in Coventry and Warwick.

Between March 19 and 24, the company will be inviting the public to tour the various schemes and to see the vast range of skills that have gone into their construction.

Facilities include the new Sports Hub at the University of Warwick, which will boast a 25-metre swimming pool with moveable floor and a gym with 200+ activity stations. It is said to be the largest gym space in the higher education sector.

The company is also delivering Coventry University’s low carbon technology centre, which will spearhead research into advanced powertrain development over the next decade.

The tours have been organised as part of Open Doors Week 2018 which runs from March 19 – 24 and aims to demystify the construction process.

Tours on some of Willmott Dixon’s other sites – including the University of Birmingham and the Blue Light Collaboration Project in Lincoln – are already full.

For the Coventry and Warwick tours, people have until March 9 to register their interest.

Nick Gibb, deputy managing director at Willmott Dixon, said: “Construction is such a key part of the UK economy, but few people outside of the industry really understand what goes into a development, so it’s great to invite them behind the scenes.

“We are particularly excited to be showcasing these two schemes in Coventry and Warwickshire as they will play a role in the area’s very exciting future. Winning City of Culture 2021, the vast regeneration underway and its position at the forefront of sectors like automotive technology means the area is really making its mark on the international stage.”

The Open Doors initiative is delivered by Build UK, the representative organisation for the national construction industry, in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
