Key organisations salute new GM mayor Burnham
Organisations and business across Greater Manchester have welcomed the election of Andy Burnham as its new metro mayor.
The 47-year-old former Labour cabinet minister and Leigh MP swept to victory in Thursday’s poll, achieving 63% of the vote across the 10 local authority regions.
Along with Steve Rotheram (also Labour), who also romped to victory in the Liverpool City Region election, Burnham will have control of a £900m budget with responsibility for police, fire, and housing.
