Work completes on development in York conservation area

Work has finished on a new student accommodation scheme that has replaced an industrial style unit on Percy’s Lane in York in the city’s Walmgate Conservation area.

The three and four storey development delivered by S Harrison has offers a collection of self-contained townhouses along with a range of communal facilities including study spaces, a fully kitted gym, a cinema room, a games room and a courtyard area.

There is also a range of en-suite apartments available.

All the scheme’s 106 bedrooms are already reserved and the first residents will move in over the coming weeks in time for the start of the 2018/19 academic year.

The development is now owned by Empiric and managed by Hello Student. GMI Construction Group was principal contractor on the project.

Ann Scott, from York-based S Harrison, said: “In recent years a huge amount of regeneration work has taken place around Percy’s Lane and this site was one of the final pieces of the jigsaw, that offered a huge amount of potential.  Our ambition has always been about enhancing the local streetscape on both Percy’s Lane and Navigation Road, with a residential scheme that is much more in-keeping with its surroundings.

“The new development now offers an exceptional standard of accommodation for students at both the University of York and York St John University, and will help to ease the high levels of demand for family housing stock in the city.”
