Birmingham’s bid to be the host city for the 2022 Commonwealth Games has been officially ratified by the Government. The ratification, which had been expected, was officially announced by Culture Secretary Karen Bradley. The announcement is significant because should the city receive final consent from the Commonwealth Games Federation then hundreds of millions of pounds of Government money is expected to be pumped into the city to help finance the event.
