Birmingham law lecturer gets The Italian Job
A university law lecturer has been appointed Honorary Vice-Consul of Italy in Birmingham.
Ilaria Di Gioia, who lectures at Birmingham City University, will now represent Italy - and Italians - in the Midlands.
The role will see the 31-year-old act assist her countrymen during times of distress or emergencies, as well as reporting births, deaths and marriages to Italian authorities.
“It was a delight to be appointed for the role by the Italian government,” said Ilaria, who hails from Rome.
