Death at Jaguar Land Rover plant prompts health and safety probe

Health and safety officials have been called in to investigate Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull production plant following the death of a contractor.

Emergency services were called to the Lode Lane site on Sunday following the incident and they arrived to find staff administering first aid to the male victim.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to hospital but died later.

The Health and Safety Executive has been notified and investigations are ongoing.

A JLR spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened about the death of one of our colleagues and our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends at this difficult time.  An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding this incident and we are of course cooperating fully with the authorities involved.  We have nothing further to add at this time.”

Earlier this year the company was fined almost £1m following an accident at the Lode Lane plant in 2015 where a worker lost a leg.
