Mark Boler

Mark Boler is the founder and CEO of The Mere Golf Resort and Spa which his father, Stephen Boler, bought in 1984. Following six of years working for his father’s businesses, Boler took over the running of the golf and country club in 1997.

Seeing its potential, he then spent a number of years working on plans to develop the business into a luxury resort to include bedrooms and two restaurants. Mark brought in Chairman, Gary Corbett, in 2008 and worked with him to secure the £15m investment for the resort development.

Mark launched the new resort in March 2012 with an 81 bedroom hotel, two new restaurants and a state-of-the-art spa and fully refurbished conference and banqueting facilities, and is now one of the most popular destinations in the North West.

In 2008 The Mere and the championship golf course was chosen to host regional qualifying rounds for The Open Championship until 2013. The Mere has won several customer and industry awards including Cheshire Life’s Hotel of The Year 2013, the ‘Good Spa Guide’s 5 Bubbles Award’ for customer service, has been awarded a highly coveted 84% rating from the AA, one of the highest possible for a 4 star venue, and two AA rosettes for its Browns restaurant.
Mark Boler’s passion and commitment to The Mere has also secured him recognition across the region and last year he was appointed an Ambassador for Inward Investment for Marketing Cheshire. He represents the North West hospitality industry on a national level and promotes the growing award winning hospitality market in Cheshire.

Mark attributes the growing success of the resort to the excellent team of people he has developed which he believes is critical to sustaining the ‘operational excellence’ of the company. His ambitions are to extend the brand into other locations across the region and is keen to identify suitable venues to which he could introduce The Mere’s operating model.

A keen golfer, Mark has also raised considerable donations for local charities including the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, Destination Florida and the Harold Riley Foundation.

Mark lives in Cheshire with his wife Emma and three boys.
