Budget 2012: "Groundbreaking" £1.2bn City Deal for Manchester

MANCHESTER has struck a £1.2bn deal with the Government which will be used to support investment in what the Chancellor described as "growth-enhancing infrastructure".

Although the Chancellor gave few details of the nature of this investment in his speech, he said that the investment was part of a package whereby the government would be "working with our great cities to devolve decision-making powers.

The deal includes an "earn back" measure, which allows the city to keep extra tax revenues created captured...
