Manchester City Region: Reasons to be cheerful

AS the nation slumped into the recession following the banking crisis, much was made by Greater Manchester’s civic leaders of the area’s resilience, its sound economic fundamentals and its innate advantages over competitor city regions.

There may have been an element of hubris to their assessment - city leaders generally talk up their territory both at home and abroad, and it is something at which Manchester has excelled - but generally their assessment appears to have stood the test of time.
