Burger chain to close Nottingham restaurant as 163 jobs are axed

The Nottingham outlet of the Handmade Burger Co. has shut along with eight others across the UK after administrators axed 163 jobs.

Leonard Curtis Business Rescue and Recovery have made the decision to close the Nottingham branch, which was opened in the intu Victoria Centre in Nottingham in 2015, along with restaurants in Gateshead, Glasgow (2), Wakefield, Birmingham, Newcastle (2) and Leeds.

Before it went into administration last Friday (7 July), Handmade Burger Co employed 700 people.

Joint administrator Julien Irving said: “We are monitoring trade closely and looking to get a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) in place which we consider to be the best outcome for all parties. If the proposal has the support of the creditors, then a CVA may allow the business to continue.

“We are working hard to seek approval from the companies’ creditors to secure this. If, however, this is not possible, then as joint administrators we will seek a buyer for the business.”
